CEREC / 1 Visit Smiles

In today's world, few of us have the time to visit the dentist for multiple appointments in order to receive dental treatment. At the same time, sitting for hours in a dental chair is not ideal either. One solution to this is called CEREC, a state-of-the-art machine that can make permanent crowns, veneers or onlays for you while you are still in the chair

Here is how it works:

  1. The dentist will prepare your tooth using a small drill.

  2. A special camera is then used to take an image of your teeth which is then uploaded to the design unit.

  3. YThis image is uploaded to a CAD/CAM unit, which creates a 3D model of your new tooth.

  4. The model is used by a milling machine, which creates your new tooth from a block of high quality ceramic that best matches your surrounding teeth.

  5. The restoration is then fixed into place.

What is CEREC?

CEREC stands for CERamic REConstruction and is a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Manufacturing) technology: one of the most advanced currently available in modern dentistry.

Many patients come to us requiring a missing piece of one or more teeth replacing with specially-made parts known as “restorations.”

Using CEREC we are able to create restorations to replace larger fillings, and create inlays, onlays, crowns, dental bridges and implants. They can even be used to repair badly broken teeth.

These types of restorations usually need to be specially-made in a lab, which takes a long time (2 weeks) and then requires multiple visits to the dentist to have them measured and fitted.

But with the aid of CEREC technology, we can now create precise restorations that perfectly fit and have them in-place and looking completely natural in about one hour – right here at Willaston Dental Care.
